Green Cape Lighthouse
The Green Cape Lighthouse is the oldest concrete lighthouse in Australia, standing at a height of 29 meters. It was constructed from 1881-1883. Thanks to the East Australian Current, ships could travel quickly southward, but heading north was much more difficult. So ships tried to stay close to the coast to avoid the strong current—though this often led to deadly accidents. This made it necessary to have a lighthouse as a guide for the ships. Today, it is still functional and sources its energy from solar power and diesel.
Also great view to watch whales!
